Hayfield Juniors v Whaley Bridge

Today was the Junior's first ever home game. The visitors were the excellent Whaley Bridge U10s.

We'd agreed to play an A game and a B game. Unfortunately Whaley's numbers were a bit low so it was a straightforward two games for their lads.

The first game kicked off with Hayfield's older children lining up first. We quickly saw what a good team Whaley are as they put us under constant pressure. We resisted for five minutes before Whaley scored their first goal.

We continued to compete in the first half but tired out in the second. Whaley scored some cracking goals and ran out as 5-0 winners.

Special mention goes to Jack Howell and Jake Young who covered every blade of grass between them, didn't let their heads drop and always looked to getting forward with the ball. Well done Jack and Jake.

We knew the B game would be a tough one as our younger children lined up. The result isn't as important as the performances we saw from some of our players (besides, I lost count after 6!) Rachel Finn is a natural centre half - dogged and determined and not afraid to put a tackle in.

Michael Deaville and Ollie Wyatt combined well in midfield on several occassions and like Jake and Jack in the first game never stopped running.

A big thank you goes out to all of the parents who came and supported their children. Also a big thank you to Nick, Mark and Mike for cutting the grass and marking the pitch out. It'll be well used through the summer!
